最近我們常在報章雜誌上看到有所謂的「短名單」與「長名單」的名稱出現。其實這是翻譯自 short list 與 long list 而得。然而，字面上短名單與長名單實在無法傳達英文的原意，本學會理事長整理如下資料，希望提供各媒體與譯界朋友一個正確的翻譯名稱。


所謂短名單是很生硬、奇怪的中文，其實就是「決選名單」，見以下 Merriam Webster’s 11th Collegiage Dictionary 上的定義:

short list : a list of candidates for final consideration (as for a position or a prize)

相對的 long-list 就是「入圍名單」，不應譯為「長名單」。

long-list long-list long-lists long-listing long-listed ,also longlist

  1. A long-list for something such as a job or a prize is a large group that has been chosen from all the people who applied for the job, or all the people or things that are competing for the prize. The successful ones from this group are chosen to go on the shortlist.
  2. If someone or something is long-listed for a job or a prize, they are put on a long-list of those to be considered for that job or prize.
