沿革:
前身:
自 1994 年 11 月至 1997 年 6 月底,由輔仁大學翻譯研究所發起,成立「翻譯學研究會」每月舉行例會探討口筆譯問題,累計共 120 會員。
成立:
本學會正式成立於 1997 年 7 月 5 日,延續研究會時期之會員共有 150 名會員。至 98 年底止,已增為 280 名會員 (其中學生會員 43 名)。
「研究會」時期代表:
由輔大翻譯學研究所所長楊承淑擔任理事長,副理事長共三位 ── 統一翻譯社社長方振淵先生、中央大學英文系梁立堅教授、輔大英文研究所鮑端磊所長。執行秘書則由師大翻譯學研究所何慧玲所長擔任。
第一屆理監事會:理事 12 名 (含常務理事 5 名) ,監事 5 名。
由常務理事中推選輔大翻譯研究所所長楊承淑擔任理事長。其他常務理事為:何慧玲所長、書林出版公司發行人蘇正隆先生、中原大學孫嬿美教授、彰化師範大學張水木教授。執行秘書則為中央大學英文系梁立堅教授。
主要活動:
- 每年發行論文集《翻譯學研究集刊》。本刊自 96 年創刊,每年發行一次。每輯約收中英文論文 12 篇,每篇約 1 – 1.5 萬字。本刊設有評審制度,歡迎各國學者投稿,每年 7 月底前截稿,10 月出刊。
- 每月第三週週末舉行例會,邀請學會會員或來賓就口筆譯問題舉行論文研討或專題座談。歡迎會員 (免費) 與各界會友 (每次 100 元) 參加。
- 每月發行會訊,報導學會活動或例會報告摘要以及新書書訊、國際會議、翻譯比賽或相關活動。每月例會前一週以電子郵件、傳真以及郵件方式發行。
- 1998 年 1 月設立專屬網站 ── www.sit.org.tw。迄今已有 17,500 多人次上網查閱或以電子郵件洽詢口筆譯相關事宜。現行網站網址改為 http://tati.org.tw ,服務信箱 service@tati.org.tw。
- 年度會員大會於每年七月舉行,每兩年舉行理監事之選舉。每年視需要召開 1 – 2 次理監事會議,決議重要議題。
97 – 98 年度重要活動
- 97 年 1 月 19 日於輔仁大學舉行「第一屆口筆譯教學研討會」。
- 97 年 7 月 5 日舉行學會成立大會。
- 97 年 10 月接受台北市政府委託進行「台北市街路地名譯名系統研究」。
- 98 年 1 月 11 日於師範大學翻譯研究所舉行「第二屆口筆譯教學研討會」,主題為:口筆譯教學理論與實務。
- 98 年 4 月 11 – 12 日於輔仁大學舉行「亞洲翻譯傳統與現代動向學術研討會」,廣邀中國大陸、香港、馬來西亞、泰國、澳洲、韓國與台灣學者,就亞洲各國的翻譯傳統與當代翻譯的發展動向進行學術研討。
99 年度重要活動
- 99 年 1 月 24 日於長榮管理學院 (台南) 舉行「第三屆口筆譯教學研討會」,主題為:口筆譯教學的未來發展與師資培育。
- 99 年 6 月 26 日舉行會員大會選舉第二屆理監事。
- 99 年 8 月 7 – 8 日由常務理事師大翻譯研究所何慧玲所長與執行秘書中央大學英文系梁立堅教授代表本會出席本屆世界譯協年會,並報告論文。
History of the Association
Forerunner.
With a view to providing a forum for the arts of translation and interpretation, the association of Interpretation and Translation (AIT) was founded in November 1994 by the Graduate Institute of Translation and Interpretation Studies, Fu Jen Catholic University, Taipei, Taiwan. The association met monthly for the study of subjects relating to translation and interpretation. At the end of this period in June 1997, the Association registered a total of 120 members.
Formal Establishment.
The Taiwan Association of Translation and Interpretation (TATI) was formally chartered on July 5, 1997 in Taipei. With members transferred from its forerunner, the Association began with 150 members and grew to 280 by the end of 1998, including 43 student members.

The Association of Interpretation and Translation was chaired by Cheng-shu YANG, director of the Graduate Institute of Translation and Interpretation Study, Fu Jen Catholic University, together with three Vice Chairmen: Square C. Y. Fang, Board Chairman of the President Translation Co., Ltd., Professor Li-chien Liang of the English Department of National Central University, and Fr. Daniel Bauer, Director of Graduate Institute of English, Fu Jen Catholic University. Executive Secretary of the Association was Emily Her, Director of the Graduate Institute of Translation and Interpretation, National Normal University.
Members of the Executive Committee of the Association:
12 Directors (including 5 Managing Directors), 5 Spervisory Directors. Cheng-shu YANG was elected as chairman of the Association from among the Managing Directors. Other Managing Directors include: Emily HER, Jerome C. SU, president of Bookman Books, Ltd.; Professor Emilie SUN of Chung Yuan Christian University; Professor Shui-mu ZHANG of National Changhua University of Education. Professor Li-chien LIANG was appointed Executive Secretary.
MAJOR REGULAR ACTIVITIES
1. Annual publicatin of The Studies of Interpretationn and Translation.
The Studies of Interpretation and Translation have been published annually since 1996. Each issue contains about 12 papers ranging from ten to twelve thousand words both in Chinese and English. The publication has a reviewing panel and welcomes contributions from all parts of the world. The deadline for contributions is at the end of July of each year. Those articles accepted are published in October.
2. Regular meetings.
Regular meetings are held on the third Saturday of each month. Members or special guests are invited to present papers or seminars on topics about translation or interpretation. Members can attend the meetings free of charge and guests are also welcome with the payment of a nominal attendance fee.
3. Newsletters.
The Newsletter is published monthly covering activities, synopses of presentations and seminars, new publications, international conferences, translation competition, and other related activities. It is released through e-mail, fax, and mail on week prior to each regular meeting.
4. Web site.
Web site www.sit.org.tw was established in January of 1998. Over 17,500 visitors have been recorded to date, who come to browse or inquire about relevant matters concerning translations and interpretation.
5. General membership meeting.
A general membership meeting is held in July every year. The executive committee is re-elected every two years. Special executive committee meetings are convened as required to resolve important matters.
IMPORTANT ACTIVITIES IN 1997-98
- The First Conference for the Teaching of Translation and Interpretation was held at Fujen Catholic University, Taipei, on January 19, 1997.
- The Charter presentatin ceremony of the Association was held on July 5, 1997.
- Commissioned by the Taipei Municipal Government in October 1997, the Association underlook the study of the Romanization system for translation of Chinese street names in Taipei.
- The second Conference for the Teaching of Translation and Interpretation was held at the National Normal University, Taipei, on January 11, 1997, with the theme: Theory and Practice in Translation and Interpretation Teaching.
- A seminar on 『Translation in Asia: Past and Present』 was held on April 11-12 at Fujen Catholic University. Scholars from China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand, Australia, South Korea, and Taiwan were invited to discuss translation and present trends in the development of translation in Asia countries.
IMPORTANT ACTIVITIES IN 1999
- The Third Conference for the Teaching of Translation and Interpretation was held on January 24, 1999 at Chang Jung Christian University, Tainan, Taiwan, with the theme: Teaching Translation and Interpretation: Future Trends in Education.
- The General membership meeting for the year 1999 was held on July 10 for the election of the second Committee.
- Emily HER, one of the Managing Directors of the Association and Li-chien LIANG, Executive Secretary of the Association will represent the Association at the Convention of The International Federation of Translators (La Fédération internationale des traducteurs, FIT) and present their papers.
- The Association plans to send its representatives to attend the Seminar on Translation Teaching in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau scheduled to be held in November 1999 in Shanghai, China.
IMPORTANT ACTIVITIES IN 2000
The Fourth Conference for the Teaching of Translation and Interpretation will be held at Fujen Catholic University, Taipei, on January 23, 2000 under the theme 『Translation & Interpretation: Trends in the Practice and What’s New in Teaching.』
